I made the same mistake. The TI drivers are out there but very alpha with no promises of working at all well. I sold mine on to a 'doze user and solved the cisco aironet problem that led me down the path of a D-link 650+ (the 'G' right?).
Things may have changed in the 3 months since but I'd sell it and buy another. The chipset unfortunately really matters.
'Orinoco' chipsets seem to the the best supported although I got an
amtel device going well after considerable effort.
There really needs to be a 'Powers On Linux' sticker on these gizmos.
