Good evening.
I have an interesting problem that has me completely bamboozled.
A bit of background.
I am relatively new to Linux. In the past, I have installed different versions, but have had no luck with networking.
I have only ever used Windows, so command line is just a little daunting.
I have four pc's networked using a netcom NB2800 ADSL router.
DHCP is enabled.
I can ping all of the network addresses.
2 of the pc's are running XP Professional, 1 has Mandrake 10 and 1 has SUSE 9.1.
I have been trying without success to mount the drives using Linneighborhood.
The group is HOUSE. I have named the pc "PhilXP" and have set up the username and password to be the same as userid on the Linux box.
I can add the pc's to the group. When I scan as user, the drives appear, but when I try to mount the drives I get the message - Can't resolve address.
I enabled logging and get the following message on the SUSE machine:
smbmount //philxp/c$ /home/philk/mnt/philxp/C$/ -o username=philk%*******,fmask=755,uid=1000,gid=100,ip=,debug=0,workgroup=house,port=139 cant resolve address
On the Mandrake machine I get the following error message
smbmount //philxp/c$ /home/philk/mnt/philxp/C$/ -o
username=philk%*******,fmask=644,dmask=755 ,uid=501,gid=501,debug=0,workgroup=house,port=139
smbconnection failed.
16802:connection to philxpfailed
Any suggestions as to how I can solve this problem. I don't even know where to begin.
Thanks
Phil
