Which D-link modem? The old DSL-300s were beautiful. The G ones have on-board PPPoE if you want it to act as the router, doing NAT on your behalf, or you can switch them into bridge mode with the web interface (but the web thingo in it is shithouse). The USB models (200 series) have a Linux driver I believe, but I wouldn't rely on my shaky memory.
