I would suggest you to look at <http://www.webhostingtalk.com.au> and also <http://www.webhostingdirectory.com.au/> for a range of discussions and web hosters with an Australian focus. Of course, there is nothing stopping you getting hosting from a US supplier and then the choice somewhat explodes...

PS I am with AussieHosts. See <http://www.aussiehosts.com.au> for further details. Been with them for 2yrs and have had no problems. Support is good as well, plus they have been around for a few years so they are no fly by nighter either.
