Was this during the install? or after the install, once you have fired up the graphical display?
could you post /var/log/XFree86.0.log for us? its a bit hard to know exactly when this error is occuring from your description... is it in a dialogue box once Xwindows starts? or is it printed as a message on the console when it tries to start up Xwindows?
