Thanks to those who offered suggestions w.r.t. the RAID-5 problem. 
It seems that the disk that replaces the faulty one must have IDENTICAL 
geometry to the failed disk.  I had bought a drive which was slightly 
larger but in the end I felt like the prince trying to get the glass 
slipper onto the ugly sister's foot!   After spending far too much time 
trying to solve the problem I ended up buying 3x80GB drives, good idea 
Dean, (@$90.00ea !!!) and now all is well again.  Yes, I did have good 
backups as well as the RAID-5.
