have CDs and can boot into linux rescue and mount file system.
What next?


Edit the shadow file and remove the encrypted password from the root account. Can't recall what the file system is mounted as but it will
be something like


Rescue#> vi /mnt/sysxxx/etc/shadow

Clear the second field so that it looks something like

  root::12566:0:99999:7:::

Reboot and volia! root has no password.
