Jill whilst that is very true, one mostly overlooked aspect is lack of threading, or, poorly threaded apps (perhaps overlooked as most users never used multi threaded apps ?) I see Intel is now promoting 'Hyper Threading' CPUs trying to overcome this in the hardware.
