I have just gone through this process, not the sound card
the ripping part. There are many apps out there worth
there weight in gold, this is what I used:

rip the vinyl to wave:
record

clean up pops, clicks and other distortions
gwc or gnome wave cleaner

the advanatage of the app is it's gui, and one click
removal process.

clean up and add effects like fad in/out plus many more,
audacity
