Having got 2.6.8 to boot by changing lilo root arg to /dev/sda1
(compiling ext3 as module or not seems to be a furphy), everything seems
to work except ANY console (i.e. KDE Konsole, Gnome console etc. or even
a native console via PF1, 2 etc)... they seem to lock up when trying to
output data to the screen i.e. Konsole comes up and allows
configuration via the toolbars, but can't display a cursor prompt.. like
the native console via PF1... that allows me to type input e.g. ls, cd
etc, but hangs up without displaying its output... as if these consoles
are in some sort of read-only mode.
I see a comment at Mandrake that they appear to have a similar problem
with 10.2 beta.
My earlier problem seemed to be a compatibiliy issue with a system
installed by a previous kernel version and I suspect this is similar,
rather than something being broken. ??? I looked in /var/log/message and
syslog and found nothing coming up looking out of the ordinary at
bootup, and nothing at all when Konsole loaded... anything I should look
for specifically ?
cheers
Rod
