I would strongly encourage people to look at the policies of the
Citizens Electoral Council before voting.

There are claims in Wikipedia that the Australian CECs are an arm of US
politican Lyndon LaRouche's political movement. For those lacking a
background in US politics, here's how Wikipedia introduces LaRouche:

   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyndon_LaRouche

LaRouche is probably the best-known exponent of conspiracy
theories in the United States. He is frequently described
as an extremist or a cult leader, and is accused of being
a fascist and anti-Semite. He denies these charges, and his
followers regard him as a major political figure.

There is a long history in Australian politics of fringe political
parties becoming involved in grass-roots movements, and eventually
distorting those movements for their own ends. Two examples I
personally recall: the subversion of the Nuclear Disarmament Party by
Australia's communists; and the shadowy links between the League of
Rights and the grass roots movement against ACT self-government.

You got that right. :-)

Nationalist and totalitarian, all in one policy.

To paraphrase: I may choose not to run Windows, but I'll fight for the
right for anyone to choose to run Windows.

A note for future Linux Australia and LUG elections. You might want to
ask if people are aligned to other political parties or movements. It
looks like we're now a significant grass roots movement and need to take
the precautions to retain the integrity of the movement that other
associations have found necessary :-(

I've sent Margo Kingston (the author of "Not Happy, John" and SMH
journalist) a copy of the e-mail. As I can't imagine anyone more opposed
to the aims of the CEC her response should be interesting.

Regards,
Glen.
