It's awesome stuff. I was using it to send SMS messages from my laptop
today. It's also good for zapping annoying ring-tones to and from the
phone. Ditto pictures. I haven't managed to get my phone to sync
calendars (but I haven't tried that hard). Apparently the Ericcson
phones are good at that (my phone is a nokia).

Your distro probably has it packaged; that's the easiest way to go.
