What about Slackware? Its install can be adjusted to suit just about any need.

Just a word of warning - no fancy configuration tools here. Just plain
ol' text file editing. Great to understand the way it all works, but
/maybe/ not so good if you are a beginner. Still, it comes with a
great selection of window managers, and is highly regarded as being
both secure and stable.

Package management may not be what Debian has, but Swaret
(swaret.sf.net) does well to keep your system up-to-date. Even with
the latest slackware-current.

Anyway, just another alternative. Diversity is a good thing after all ;-)
