There are some automators around, supplied by vendors of Product (Data/Lifecycle) Management systems and Document Management Systems, but they are extremely pricey, with per-annum licenses etc. Most do not run on Linux.
You might be better off just leaving them alone (apart from basic virus checking), and just indicate that the file is in ppt.
