For your basic extra PATA ide ports we tend to use whatever's available - 
sunix 'raid' card - without the RAID turned on - used software raid 
instead.

For servers with hardware raid we tend to go with the 3ware stuff. They 
start from $277 for 2 port SATA and go up to 12 port for $1477.10. 3ware 
support Linux better than they support other operating systems - even 
comes with a nice web-based gui interface.
