I'm pretty much an amateur but I have used two modem/routers with
3 Debian Sarge machines. The first was a NetComm 1300 Plus 4, the second
a Billion 5100.

I took about 5 minutes to set up each one and never had a moment
problem. The NetComm karked it after 5 months which was not so
impressive, but Linux had nothing to do with that.
