convert -transparent white in.png out .png

might do it ..

Oooo close but not quite. Does as expected but doesn't fix the antialiasing. I.E the image exported from dia has a white background with the foreground text etc antialiased to white. I need to antialias the foreground to transparent rather than white.

The -antialias option doesn't fix it either, may not be applying it correctly.

Thanks I'll keep playing. Ideal solution would be for dia to do an "export with transparent background".
