Umm, but in my weird circumstance (no monitors, just a laptop), it
wouldn't help.  I agree, KVM switches are great - but never use a
mechanical one.  As they get older, you can get shorts as you switch
them, and damage the PC.  I know, I had one kill the parallel port on a
PC that was on the motherboard, which took out the whole PC.

Digital KVM switches OTOH are perfectly safe, I believe.

And as for Jeff's suggestion - installing new hardware into the
headless machine would be too scary (what if something went wrong?), and
installing a video capture card into a laptop sounds worse.  Finding an
old temporary monitor was a much easier solution.  :-)
