I only thought that you might gain greater satisfaction insulting me in person. I guess you find it easier to do when we are separated by email.

The fact that both of you contribute to the community as developers doesn't give you the right to insult people as you see fit. Some people would expect that given the respect you are usually show that you might in fact behave better than the average joe.
Im quite happy to argue with you about things, but when you feel the need to get person please don't reply to an email.
