Hi all

I was wondering if anyone has a PCI Matrox graphics card or any other graphics card that I can borrow, have or buy that is supported by XFree86. Im using XFree86 Version 4.3.0.1 on an Alpha LX164. I currently have a Matrox G200 but when starting X I get: (EE) No devices detected.

The driver for this for XFree86 is mga and its been working for years. I believe it's a hardware error as it failed after a reboot.

lspci shows...
0000:00:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G200 (rev 01)

cat /proc/pci shows....
Bus 0, device 5, function 0:
VGA compatible controller: Matrox Matrox G200 PCI (rev 1).

So the bus identifies that the card is there but X won't run. I have tried reconfiguring it many times via dpkg-reconfigure but still can't get it to work.

If I get another video card with PCI interface at the meeting I can at least see if it works using another card. Thus if anyone has an old card that they know works and knows what driver etc to use with it - yippee :-)

Resolution I use is 1280x1024 24 bit but anything less is fine.
