I tried using
artsdsp -m skype
which I think is the gnome equivalent of esddsp.
artsdsp is more the KDE equivalent of esddsp (KDE uses arts, GNOME uses esound).
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ esddsp skype open /dev/dsp: No such file or directory
The error message occurs when I try to make a call.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo esddsp skype open /dev/dsp: No such file or directory open /dev/dsp: Connection refused
Second error message is when I try again to make a call.
I assume you've made sue /dev/dsp actually exists and checked the permissions on /dev/dsp
