It is possible with Debian, though I'd certainly suggest you take a look
at Kubuntu (http://www.kubuntu.org/), which is a variant of Ubuntu,
which itself is based off Debian.

You get access to nearly all the packages in Debian and even some not in
Debian. I'd be happy to burn you a copy some time if you wanted to turn
up at a SLUG event or we could arrange something else.
