Nope, just logging out and back in should be fine.
And the fact you can read them at all rules out corruption from dodgy
media or a bad burn.

Sorry, yes. KDE probably has a control panel thingy that'll tell you
what's mounted and where as well, but I wouldn't know where to find it.
Just type mount in to a konsole.

As Lindsay already mentioned, a lot of burning packages offer UDF as a
format for CDRs as well, though it's more often used on DVDs.
If that's the case, you can add options to /etc/fstab to control
ownership and permissions of files on that device.
