Hell no! It oughta work, it just needs some convincing. You need to tell ALSA to use a different audio device - it's actually a subdevice of your primary sound card. So instead of using the default 0:0 (which means the first sound device's first subdevice), you will probably need to set it to use 0:1 by default. I configure esd to do this in /etc/esound.conf, but you can do it in .asoundrc too (this is well documented, search with Google). This should not be on slug-chat!
