yes i would recommend replacing the omnidirectional underpowered
internal antennas with a panel antenna
but i believe wifi is not an acceptable solution? it does have
that whole, insecurity about it. and with mac filtering slash
encryption slash passwords etc is does add an uncomfortable
administration overhead that a wall jack doesnt
have you tried running ethernet through the existing wires?
dont assume it wont work. ethernet over power is a good option
as was mentioned earlier.
you could possibly team some of the options together, like
have wifi from the internet source out to a client access point
in each room, then just plug into that via cat5. encryption
and other wireless security would be transparent to the user.
you could turn of beacon frames in the AP and it wouldnt
even show up. you could also use funky ad-hoc networking
to repeat packets through the building (depending on the
topography). id start to wonder if the cost would be greater
than running new cable. you could do similar with ethernet
over power (im not sure if circuit breakers etc block the
data), but you could run data out, connect to a switch
and then cat5 to the guests laptop/pc/whatever.
but there arent many other options, heres a little list.
(X) wifi
(X) recabling
(?) ethernet over power
(?) ethernet over existing wiring
