as it was, I decided to 'rpm -U *.rpm'

after waiting with baited breath, I tried some web pages, and, it seems
that both funcionality, and, employment, survived the treatment.

[after that, and, after a few un-needed source compilation, followed by
rpm installs of same, my app worked]
