Agreed, but even if the filter on the input to the list only
catches 70% of the spam it is still far less wasteful of
resoruces (cpu, electricty, people's time) than the current
situation.

It seemed to me that you were advocating that everyone maintain their
own spam filter and the list remain unfiltered. I was pointing out
that this was a waste of resources.

There are also people on this list who receive SLUG mail at a 
work account where they may not have the tools to filter spam
as easily as they could on a Linux system.
