SLUG's monthly meeting featuring talks and SLUGlets. Meetings are
open to the general public, and free of charge.

General Talk: Nya Fleron - Training Greenpeace in OpenOffice

An account of the technical and social issues, achievements and lessons
learned when training Greenpeace to use OpenOffice and other OpenSource
software. The presentation will cover a very brief introduction of
OpenOffice, an account of the training project with Greenpeace, including
examples of technical issues that came up when faced with migrating from
Microsoft Office to OpenOffice, lessons learned and recommendations for
others.

Special Interest Talk: Lindsay Holmwood - Merlin, Kennards Hire's FOSS
Sorcery

Project Merlin is an Kennards Hire's endeavor to standardise their front
counter point of sales system, and bring Linux to the corporate desktop
nation wide. This talk will provide a technical overview of the adaptation
of Free Software to their unique position through the use of distributed
LDAP authentication, Samba, Xfce and Gnome desktop environments, as well
as issues involved with deployment, systems management, and long term
maintenance of the system.

As usual, SLUGlets will be running in room 02.04.23 during the 2nd half of
the meeting for those who do not wish to attend the 2nd talk.
