Angela
there is lots of emotive opinion around. I use SuSE on my 85yo grandmother.
Its *easy* and sane to sys-administer. She wants to know what printers work 
out of the box:
yast -> hardware -> printers

browse the 100s and 100s maybe 1000s long list and choose some!
SuSE10 is downloadable and http://www.elx.com.au have boxed sets for $100.
