I use soft phones quite a bit - both direct PC-PC and PC-PSTN. Until
recently, I used the soft phone from SJ Labs together with asterisk
running on the same box.

However, I have been using Ekiga ever since it appeared this year. I
find it to be the best. Since Ekiga is able to register with multiple
systems, I don't use Asterisk now. Highly recommended.

I think the ability for multiple registrations is important. For
example, FWD gives a great range of toll free numbers; Gizmo gives
really cheap calls to the USA (and is a flashy, simple softphone for
Windows users - I have switched all my rellies to Gizmo).

Also note that there is a gateway that allows PSTN numbers to ring your
softphone: 1 300 558 592. Sipbroker also has an access number in Sydney
and other capital cities. Sydney is 8307 3881.

Alan
