.img files are usually ISO9660 images (or files) with funny different
names.
If you rename the file to end with .iso, you should be able to burn
using nautilus (right click, write to cd) or view the contents by
double-clicking it.
The usual recipe I use for mounting iso files (not dependant on the
extension) is this:
sudo mount -t iso9660 ./foo /mnt -o loop
It's effectively as mounting a cdrom drive, except '-o loop' basically says
use a file rather than a device.
