For what it's worth, a Python Meetup was being organised by Alan Green throughout 2005 partly as a replacement for the Python SIG. You may wish to coordinate with that group to see if it's still running. If it is, it might be better simply to advertise their meetings better within SLUG, if it isn't you will want to make sure that you advertise in their venues because they had pretty good attendance and it would be a shame to have to start from scratch. It was much more successful than the Python SIG ever was, but I think the end of free meetings at the James Squire Brewhouse jolted them. Last I heard they were talking at http://groups.google.com/group/sydneypython/ . I can't say I saw why it merited its own discussion group when there's python-au at http://starship.python.net/mailman/listinfo/python-au but that's where it is. Something worth keeping in mind by the way is that a fair chunk of the Python community in Australia is pretty operating system agnostic and not particularly interested in Linux as such. You should be pretty clear whether it's for "Python on Linux" or "Python in general" (I don't know about Ruby), especially if the name SLUG is attached. -Mary -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
