Perhaps a bit more explanation would be nice for people here,
especially since this was kind of done without telling people until
after the fact.

group, Google replaces the last three letters of a username in an e-mail
address with periods. To view the full e-mail address, one has to click
on the periods and enter a verification code to prove they are human,
