Yup, I've got one sitting there nicely from ages ago. I was more puzzled
by the decision to not ship the file at all.

I know of a couple of people who have hit trouble trying to build
software on a fresh Dapper install only to find that ld.so.conf isn't
there and hence any libraries in /usr/local/lib get ignored. I would
have thought that it was pretty much a standard file across most
distros, given that most software defaults to installing to /usr/local
from the source.
