I have Thunderbird installed on a few machines at work but I have it installed under /home/user_name/Documents

It auto updates fine in this configuration.

I have a feeling Thunderbird doesnt update when under a system directory, because the Mozilla folk don't want to create conflicts with the package update tools ie apt-get, yum, urpmi that also do the same job of managing updates.

I've therefore given up, uninstalled v 1.5.0.2 and downloaded and
installed v 1.5.0.4 (in which I'm typing this very moment). It's not
that onerous to do it that way, although the other method would be neater.

Thanks again,
