(Though SAV would go through the whole process for that, unless you switch it off for your local domains.) > If its non local it sees if it comes from a valid domain. No, that's a different check that should always be done anyway. A mail server configured for SAV will actually connect to the (claimed) sender's mail server and run the SMTP conversation up to RCPT TO. If it gets a 200 (accept), then the sender really does exist (and can accept email), so the receiving MTA will accept the email. > so why don't spammer just use a valid domain for their senders address ?? They'd have to use a valid recipient address at a valid domain. Spammers are stupid and lazy. That is, currently, too hard. - Jeff -- GUADEC 2006: Vilanova i la GeltrĂș, Spain http://2006.guadec.org/ "Boys will be boys, hackers will be hackers, geeks will be geeks, and cyberpunks will always just be ravers with Macintoshes." - Monkey Master, Crackmonkey -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
