All the replies are interesting, BUT if your bios does not say 1100x800 
whatever IT WILL NOT WORK come hell or high water. This depends on your video 
card (google for 1280x800) 1st, then on your monitor second. The log file is 
your first step. EG Acer A100 centrino dual laptop will not display 1280x800 
until you load the prop ATI driver. Then all is well.

There is a GUI X setup in RH, just don't have any RH boxen now, can't remember 
how.
All the replies above are HOW to make it work IF it works. Not what to do IF 
IT WONT WORK.
