Right click Desktop --> Change Desktop Background --> Add Wallpaper,
then --> Control L will allow you to enter the path.

In gnome you right click the icon and select Properties, then you click
on the icon that appears in the new window (the one it currently
displays) use the browser to select the new icon that you want
