Like I said earlier in the thread - run nm-applet and look for it in your
panel. You might have to ensure that nm-applet is starting in your session
to see it next time you're logged in.
Also, if you decide you don't want to use Network Manager (because it does
not love Atheros very much at the moment), make sure you've removed all the
related packages before trying to fix things up:
apt-get remove --purge network-manager dhcdbd
That ought to do it.
