My PC dual boots XP and Kubuntu.

While trying to reformat a 1 gb Memory Stick/Flash Drive under XP I somehow stuffed a SATA HD by apparently renaming it and formatting it, though as it didn't sit there forever formatting, I'm guessing that I just wiped the partition table somehow.

When I boot Kubuntu I get the message:-

"The Superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem. Run e2fsck with an alternative superblock:-

e2fsck -b 8193 <device>

---------------------------

In Kubuntu's /etc/fstab it shows that the drive is (was) ext3 .

dmesg | tail after boot shows "Can't find ext3 filesystem on /dev/sdb1

Should I run e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/sdb1 or e2fsck -b 8193 /media/sdb1 ?

Just another learning experience and a reminder to never trust Windows.

Thanks

Bill
