Is anyone else having trouble with ImageMagick's "convert" utility on Ubuntu? I am using Kubuntu 5.04 (upgrading the distro is not an option) and the latest version of ImageMagick available through apt-get update etc.

The problem appears to be that arguments to options are not recognised -- the error message is "option requires argument [offending option]". I have tried putting arguments in double quotes and single quotes as well as removing the intervening space; all to no avail.

If I delete the offending option (which is the last option on the command line) the same message appears with respect to a different option (ie, that which is now the last).

It is clear from the man page that the Ubuntu maintainer has gone to some trouble to "amend" the convert utility so that it now does things the "Ubuntu way". However, I am getting a little frustrated by the requirement to copy images to a RH box just so that I can run convert successfully from the CLI.

Can anyone provide a cluestick.
