Do you have the firmware for it? Check your kernel messages as it will
log any problems ("dmesg" and look for ipw3945).
I'm not sure if debian comes with the needed firmware by default, but
othewise you can google for "debian ipw3945 firmware" and there are some
useful-looking resulst.
