I never had any issues with the java based one either, but then I followed the advice at http://puzzling.org/computing/help/banking, which maintained the current wisdom of java versions and magic URLs from the SLUG list. Judging from previous threads, the java version caused trouble for many people. The new HTML based one seems to work just fine in epiphany (except when the entire service is too busy or down for maintenance... I guess it's still a bit new).
