Well you don't want a lossy compression format, which
basically means "don't use JPEG". Almost anything else
would be fine, but the most common format for stuff like
this, at least in the graphic design and publishing worlds,
would be TIFF.
Would not eps (which is practically made for grayscale and line
drawings) would be a more appropriate format?
