I'm using tilda now :-) works a treat. Not only the multiple tabs, but it has support for multiple sessions too and being able to tune the terminal size down the pixel is really good. I would like transparency to reveal underlying windows, not desktop graphic, but being able to rollup/down quickly is almost as good.
