OK, 'fixed' ip address is the more appropriate term.
All servers except the DHCP server itself have "fixed" IP addresses sourced from the DHCP server along with the network configuration options, that "fixed" IP address is registered in the DHCP server as being associated with the MAC address of the discovering server.
OK, so DHCP must be configured to include MAC address to assign the same ip address to a specific computer every time that computer is booted up so it's ip address will remain
