it is an "industry trend" is ample reasoning and a good thing.

Yes and no. DET is part of the industry. As far as educating IT users
and professionals go, they need to educate people with what is used in
industry (and there isn't just one system). To that extent, they
should follow trend*s* very closely.

As far as running the DET goes, they need to use what best meets their
own requirements. It wouldn't make sense to follow industry trends in
this regard, other than choosing a platform with a sufficient variety
and availability of support.
