I think that most of the info you've given is not relevant. (always do 
that :-)
When I've had this problem, a local parallel port kyocera printer, changing 
the driver in yast from the recommended default to the gimp-bla version 
resolved the problem. It's easy to solve, I've never investigated why, and it 
has been so for 9.3, 10, SLES/SLED 10, 10.1 and 10.2
