Dear Rick and list,
sounds interesting, I must have missed some earlier emails, is this for
people who wants to start a business ? for people working in a startup
? and what is the topic of the day
There are several groups trying to help get more startups going including
STIRR <http://www.stirr.net/> and BarCamp <http://barcamp.org/> and I support
all of them.
I am trying to make it easier for *ANYONE* to start a venture.
My personal 'itch to scratch' is simplifying capital raising without prospectuses.
There is lots of money available for startups but geeks are not accessing it.
(Hint the Super funds have over $1,000 Billion and are growing richer by $1-2
Billion a week)
The topic was going to be are 'entrepreneurs born or made' but there is a free
workshop
run by the SA venture Capital Board on Information Memorandums (ie how raise
money without a prospectus)
I have been asked to speak to several companies thinking about using IMs to raise a few buck,
so I may talk about that.
If we can create a 'Startup culture' we may see some rich geeks but more importantly we
should see a better Australia.
I know that speaking about the Corporation Law is not as sexy as VI v Emacs debates but
it is important if you want to do cool business things.
Much more important is the Boundary Hotel has Scharers beer from The George at Picton
on tap and it is free. (yes, I paying)
regards,
Richard Hayes
