two options
1), put geyes or keyes if you use kde in your task bar then look where
the eyes look to find
the cursor I use 2 of them in gnome one on the top task/menubar and
one on the bottom
one top right & bottom left they work great.
2). gnome has a option (check box) under System->Preferences->mouse
tab pointers which reads "Highlight the cursor when you press Ctrl"
which does a good job of showing u where the mouse is using boxes
around the cursor which shrink to nothing
